ABout The Project
Scratchleys is one of Newcastle’s most famous seafood restaurants, located over the water in Newcastle harbour. It is an incredibly architecturally designed landmark of Newcastle and the install brief made sure to include that the solar system was not seen from the land or ground.
The owner of Scratchleys, Neil Slater, was impressed with the smaller hidden solar system design coupled with the installation of 31 x VSD units to his refrigeration compressors, reducing his overall site load and matching the solar installation. As Neil said, “all the other solar companies just wanted to fill the whole roof with solar!”
The site also has a few shading issues that the SmartSolar overcomes with its independent panel performance, allowing for roof areas that would not normally be suitable, to be utilised for additional solar generation. All the solar panels, VSD’s and balance of system equipment are all certified for close proximity to saltwater installations and will give Scratchleys trouble free operation for many years to come.
2 Fronius 20kW SYMO inverters with 10 years warranty and a 20-year design life have been used with 159 x 305watt TrinaSmart panels, all managed by Tigo DC management.
